MOVING GUIDE

Checking items on moving day: checklist for boxes, furniture and accessories

Move-in settling

Key answers

Completion of the move is not just about whether the large items have arrived. Check each item by box number, item and dismantled parts so that handover and follow-up are clearly recorded.

Have the same handover checklist ready before dispatch

Use the final item list and box number table as the basis for checking, with a copy kept by the contacts at both the old and new premises. Update immediately if the number of boxes changes, to avoid both sides using different versions for checking in, and only remembering an approximate total in the end.

Clearly separate items going to the new home, into storage and for disposal, and confirm which furniture has been dismantled. Keep valuable documents and personal items with yourself; do not assume anything missing from the moving list has been omitted.

Check each area before leaving the old home

After the last batch has been moved out, check each room again, including inside cupboards, under the bed, behind doors, on the balcony and in storage areas. Also check for items left in the lobby, stairwell or loading area. Do not leave simply because the inside looks empty.

  • Check the items to be left for the landlord and the items to be taken away
  • Check whether dismantling screws, shelves, feet and remote controls have been put into bags
  • Handle keys and access passes according to the tenancy or management arrangements.
  • Record any cleaning, reinstatement or disposal work that needs to be arranged separately

At the new home, check items by number, not just the number of large boxes

First confirm the number and placement of large furniture and appliances, then check the carton numbers. If one item of furniture is moved in multiple parts, check it against the parts list; do not count every dismantled part as a complete item.

Have one contact person keep the records, while other family members help identify room locations. Do not have multiple people change the layout at the same time, as this may cause the team to move items repeatedly; if you need to change an agreed scope of work, confirm the arrangement with the company first.

Check the appearance and any scheduled assembly items

Check the appearance, glass, corners and packaging condition where it is safe to inspect; for furniture scheduled for assembly, check the accessories and assembly scope. Power connection and testing for electrical appliances, gas appliances or specialist equipment should be handled by the relevant personnel according to their duties.

Do not open unfamiliar machinery yourself or test it by forcing switches on and off. If there is an issue, first take clear photos of the full item and the details, and record the item name, location, time found and the packaging condition at the time, so it can be identified later.

If there is a problem, keep the record and contact us as soon as possible

If there are missing parts, visible damage or any other questions, first inform the person in charge on site and the company, and describe the verifiable situation. Keep the quotation, inventory, photos, packing materials and related messages; do not discard items or repair them before taking additional photos.

Follow-up will be handled in accordance with the applicable terms and actual circumstances; do not treat completion of checking as meaning all issues have been identified or ruled out. If there are still unpacked items, note the parts still to be checked and report them promptly in line with company guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the number of boxes enough for counting items?

Not enough. Check large items, box numbers, dismantled parts and accessories, and separate what goes to the new home, storage and other destinations, using the final list.

How should a dismantled item of furniture be counted?

Check shelves, door panels, bases and accessory bags against the original item and parts list; do not count each dismantled part as a complete item.

Which areas should be checked before leaving the old home?

Check inside cabinets, under beds, behind doors, on balconies and in storage areas, and also confirm whether there are any items to be moved in the lobby, stairwell and unloading area.

If damage is found, should I repair it myself first?

Take photos first, keep the packaging and record details, then contact the company and follow the instructions; do not repair or discard the relevant materials first and then ask for confirmation.

Does completion of handover mean all equipment has been tested?

No. Moving, assembly, professional connection and testing are different scopes, and should be handled according to the confirmed procedures and the division of work among the relevant personnel.
