MOVING TIPS & ADVICE
Storage during renovation: what should be confirmed before any extension, collection or return?
Key answers
For renovation storage, confirm the storage period, extension, collection and return arrangements in advance. If the completion date is still uncertain, sort out billing and contact details first, rather than only asking about the monthly storage fee.
If the schedule is not yet confirmed, how should storage be requested?
Record separately the dates for start of works, expected completion, inspection and when furniture can be moved back in. Handover after renovation does not necessarily mean the unit can be occupied the same day; please confirm with the relevant persons whether the floor, walls and main works are suitable for moving items in.
Explain the expected timeframe and any uncertainties to the company, and ask about the charging cycle, extension method and how much notice is required in advance. Do not treat a provisional completion date as a return date that no further confirmation is needed for.
What should be checked when rescheduling, rather than simply changing one date?
Notify the company as early as possible if a delay is likely, and check how the new storage period, fees and return schedule will be arranged. Change terms differ by service; the actual arrangement is subject to written confirmation, and no days will be offset at the original rate without agreement.
If the collection or return address, floor or route changes, these must also be updated at the same time. Notifying the renovation company alone does not mean the moving company has received the message; the designated contact person should confirm all arrangements centrally.
If I want to take one box out after storage, can it be arranged at any time?
The storage method and collection arrangements should be checked in advance; it should not automatically be treated as a private storage space with free access. If you want to collect items in batches, please first explain the items and frequency, and understand the booking, handling method and related charges.
- Medicines, ID documents, work and school items should not be put into storage first and collected later
- Keep an electronic copy of the box number list for accurate item identification
- Please enquire first about liquids, batteries and special items if you are not sure whether they can be stored.
- Do not send photos of sensitive content or private documents as ordinary assessment material.
How should moisture protection, storage limits and guarantees be checked?
First provide the material and known condition of the item, and ask about the actual environment and applicable restrictions. Do not assume there is temperature and humidity control, 24-hour access, extra insurance or any other specific facility without confirmation.
Keep items dry before packing and record their condition; if there are mould spots, pest issues or special care requirements, deal with them first or ask for advice. Coverage, exclusions and follow-up arrangements are subject to the applicable terms and should not be replaced by general introductions.
Before sending it back, confirm the route and the condition of the new home again
Once items can be placed at the new home, check the lift, parking, moving time slot and large furniture positions. If only part of the items are to be returned first, provide the box numbers and item list, and confirm whether the arrangement is possible and how it will be charged.
When returning items, check them against the original list and keep the necessary records, then unpack in batches according to your living needs. If there is any issue, note down the item, box number and condition and contact the company; do not discard the packaging before adding the information later.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I arrange storage if the renovation date is not yet fixed?
You can first provide the approximate item volume, expected timeframe and date variables to enquire about charges, delays and return methods, then confirm once the details are finalised.
If the renovation is delayed, will storage fees be automatically extended at the original rate?
Do not assume so. Contact the company early to confirm the new deadline, charges and return slot, and rely on the actual written confirmation.
If I want to take one box out after storage, is it possible at any time?
Depending on the confirmed storage and access arrangements, booking and separate fee confirmation may be required. Essential daily items should be kept with you.
Is constant temperature and humidity control, plus extra insurance, always included?
Do not assume without confirmation. Enquire with the company about the actual environment, item restrictions, coverage and exclusions, and interpret the service according to the applicable terms.
Can it be delivered back immediately after the renovation is finished?
First confirm that the new home is suitable for placing the items, then check access, lift, time slot and placement, and confirm the return date and procedures with the company again.
