MOVING TIPS & ADVICE

Understand Your Moving Quote: Which items should you ask about?

Moving Knowledge

Key answers

When comparing moving quotations, use the same items, addresses and service scope, check all surcharges and undecided items one by one, and do not look only at the lowest total.

Does the item list match the actual moving items?

First check the names and quantities of large furniture, appliances, boxes and loose items against the list. Sofa beds, electric beds or large glass items should be clearly listed; they should not all be put under “general furniture” without explanation.

The quotation is based only on the information provided. Any undecided box count or items to keep/discard should be stated, then updated later. If different companies receive different versions of the list, the totals cannot be compared directly; please keep the final version before confirming the service.

Are the address and moving route on both sides clearly stated?

Check the floor level, stairs, lift, podium, parking position and walking distance separately for the old and new homes. ‘Has a lift’ does not replace full route details, especially for buildings where you must first go up half a flight of stairs or change lift midway.

Tunnel, parking and route surcharges should be confirmed in the written quotation; if not listed, please ask first and do not assume they are included or excluded. If the address or route changes after the quotation, the arrangement and charges should be confirmed again.

What is included in moving services and additional services respectively?

Packing, furniture dismantling and reassembly, specialist equipment handling, storage, disposal and removal are separate processes. Check item by item what is included and what is quoted separately, and list the corresponding items clearly, instead of using just 'all-inclusive'.

  • Scope of packing materials and packing work
  • Dismantling items, reassembly and fixing requirements
  • Storage period, delivery to storage and return arrangements
  • Person responsible for disposal, dismantling or professional disconnection, and the scope involved

The estimated subtotal should not be confused with the written total price

The moving fee on this website is calculated from the subtotal of items listed on the price list, and is not a confirmed total price for all on-site work. Any unconfirmed surcharges and other services will be confirmed by the Company, and a written quotation will then be issued based on the full details.

One Plus One Moving Expert sets out charges in a written quotation and does not accept tips; for other companies, please verify directly with them. When comparing, watch out for items not yet finalised, and do not assume a lower figure with fewer listed items is necessarily cheaper.

Confirm payment, rescheduling and follow-up arrangements

Service date, booking confirmation method, payment, and rescheduling or cancellation arrangements should be checked against the applicable terms and written confirmation. Do not assume that making any payment, submitting a form, or receiving an automated message means all arrangements are confirmed.

Keep the inventory, photos, quotation and confirmation messages together. If you need to know about compensation, exclusions or follow-up procedures, check the applicable terms directly and ask clearly before the service; do not treat a standard moving quotation as an extra insurance promise.

Frequently Asked Questions

What matters most when comparing moving quotes?

First confirm that the items, both addresses and service scope are the same, then compare item by item what is included, charged separately and undecided, rather than looking only at the total price.

Is the item subtotal the total moving price?

No. This website’s calculator compiles a subtotal for item moving only. Other services and on-site extra charges will be confirmed by the company based on the information provided, and a written quotation will then be issued.

If the quotation says all-inclusive, do I still need to ask?

You still need to check the exact list, route, materials, dismantling and other services, and clearly state any undecided or separately charged items. Do not rely on a single “all-inclusive” statement.

Does One Plus One Moving Expert charge tips separately?

One Plus One Moving Expert does not accept tips, and fees and service arrangements are checked against the written quotation; arrangements of other companies should be confirmed directly with them.

How do I confirm the coverage and rescheduling conditions?

Check the applicable terms and written confirmation. Before the service, ask clearly about payment, rescheduling, cancellation, compensation and excluded items, and do not treat a standard quotation as extra insurance.
