MOVING GUIDE

Moving fragile items and electrical appliances: packing, wiring and pre-move preparation

Packing

Key answers

Fragile items should be secured one by one; for electrical appliances, first confirm power disconnection, drainage and the original manufacturer's transport requirements. Standard packing cannot replace professional disassembly and reconnection.

First identify fragile items, crush-sensitive items and items needing dismantling and reconnection

Glass, ceramics, mirrors, screens and precision equipment all carry different risks. List the names, quantities, dimensions and any existing packaging, and take photos of the whole item and any protruding parts; do not rely on one "miscellaneous" photo to cover items that need special protection.

If the original packaging is complete and suitable for the model, it may be kept for assessment. Not having the original box does not mean any large box will do. For large, expensive or fragile items, the team must first confirm the protection method and scope of service.

Glass and ceramics protected one by one to avoid collision

Use suitable cushioning materials according to the shape of the items; treat the bottom of the box, the spaces between items and the gaps. Separate removable accessories first, and protect protruding parts separately if they cannot be removed; do not place heavy items on glass or small parts.

  • Wrap dishes and cups separately, without stacking directly on top of each other
  • Mark the boxes as FRAGILE and which way up on the outside
  • Large mirrors or glass tabletops should be listed separately and not treated as ordinary cartons
  • Check whether there is any obvious looseness before sealing the box

Back up and record the wiring for the TV, computer and audio equipment first

Devices containing data that needs to be kept should be backed up first, then shut down properly, and the wiring should be photographed. Put cables into separate bags labelled with the device name; remote controls, bases and fixing screws should also be labelled separately, to avoid having to try pairing each item one by one at the new home.

Avoid putting pressure on the screen surface. The moving direction and protection method will be handled according to the manufacturer’s requirements and the on-site assessment. Our team’s assistance with moving does not include data recovery, professional calibration or network setup; any required technical support should be arranged in advance.

Fridge and washing machine to be emptied and secured according to the manufacturer’s instructions

Clear out the food from the fridge first and follow the instructions for defrosting and dealing with any water. For the washing machine, check drainage, hoses and transport securing requirements. Different models need different handling, so the same power-off or standing time should not be applied across the board.

For work involving electricity, gas or other professional connections, first confirm who is responsible and whether a qualified person is required. Do not cut wires or loosen unfamiliar pipes yourself, and do not assume the equipment is ready to use immediately just because the move is completed.

After arrival at the new home, check first, then put into use as required

First check the outer packaging and visible condition, and compare the model, accessories and cable list. If anything is unusual, take photos of the item and packaging condition and notify the company as soon as possible; do not force it on, dismantle it or discard the packaging before confirmation.

Equipment must be positioned, connected and started in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements. Items requiring professional installation or testing should be handled by the relevant personnel. Keep the checklist and service allocation records for easy reference to the scope of responsibility for moving, installation and subsequent use.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many layers of wrapping are enough for fragile items?

You cannot guarantee safety based only on the number of floors. Cushioning, gaps, direction and load-bearing must be handled according to the material and shape, and large or special items should be assessed by the team first.

Does appliance moving include water and electrical disconnection?

It is not automatically included. The responsible person for the required disconnection/reconnection, installation and testing should be confirmed first, and tasks involving specialist requirements must be handled by the appropriate personnel.

How long before moving should a fridge be switched off?

Follow the original manufacturer’s and model’s instructions for power disconnection, defrosting and reactivation after moving; no fixed time is applied to all fridges.

Do computers need to be backed up before moving?

Any data that needs to be kept should be backed up first, then the device should be shut down properly and the wiring recorded. Moving arrangements do not include data recovery, network setup or professional calibration.

What should I do if an appliance shows an issue after arrival at the new home?

Record the appearance, packaging, model and any abnormal condition first, and contact the company. Do not force it on, dismantle it or discard the packaging first. Technical inspection will be handled by the relevant staff.
