MOVING GUIDE

Safe moving preparation: weight, access and floor assessment

Special items

Key answers

Before moving a safe, check the weight, size, fixing method and full route. Do not estimate the weight by appearance alone, and do not test the floor loading or moving method yourself.

Please provide model and weight details, not just a front photo

Provide the full view, dimensions, brand and model, and any available weight information; photograph the nameplate if needed. If information is unavailable, state that it is unknown so the company can decide what further details are required. Safes with the same appearance may not have the same weight or structure.

Please state whether the safe is fixed to the floor, wall or cabinet, and whether it has a base or removable parts. Do not send passcodes, key details or photos of valuables inside; assessment of moving it usually does not require such sensitive content.

Please remove and keep the items inside yourself first

Before the move, clear the safe according to the confirmed arrangement. Keep important documents, cash and valuables with you. How doors and movable parts should be secured should be confirmed with the team. Do not dismantle locks or structures you are unfamiliar with.

If the safe cannot be opened, the lock is faulty or it needs to be unlocked, please state this separately and confirm whether specialist handling is required. Moving service does not include lock-picking, lock repair or handling the contents inside the safe.

Full-route assessment of support points and moving access

Provide both floors, lift load capacity and dimensions, stairs, podiums, road access and parking details. If there are level differences, movable boards, narrow bridges or unclear support points on the ground, take clear photos and point them out; do not judge by width alone.

Issues involving floor slabs, floors or equipment loading must be confirmed by the appropriate person; you cannot rely on online measuring tools, estimates or trial lifting to judge safety. If on-site conditions are unclear, provide more details first before deciding the plan.

Confirm dismantling at the original site and installation at the new address separately

Fixing bolts at the old address, floor repairs and fixed installation at the new address may involve different processes and different teams. Please state clearly which parts are needed, and confirm whether moving, dismantling, installation and reinstatement are included in the written quote.

  • Whether there is already a fixed base or installation position at the old and new premises
  • Management office restrictions on heavy items and moving equipment
  • Who confirms the load-bearing and installation requirements?
  • Areas requiring professional dismantling, drilling or reinstatement

Keep the work area clear on the day and check items one by one after completion

Keep working space clear as required by the team, and do not allow unrelated people to stand on the route for moving heavy items. If the weight or site conditions differ from the declared details, reassess first; do not continue using an uncertain method just to finish the original time slot.

On arrival at the new address, check the safe's appearance, placement and any confirmed fixed procedures first. Any issues with locks or operation should be handled separately with the relevant staff. If there is a problem, keep photos and service records, then follow up with the company; do not move heavy items yourself to check the underside.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I enquire first if I do not know the safe’s weight?

You can first provide the model, dimensions, full view and any available information, and clearly state that the weight is unknown; we will then confirm any additional information needed and assess it.

Do I need to give the moving company the safe password?

For the assessment, you do not need to provide passwords, key details, or photos of the contents inside boxes; please keep important items with you first, and confirm the operation arrangement with the company separately.

Can the safe be moved together with its contents?

It should be emptied in accordance with the confirmed arrangement. Cash, identity documents and valuables should be kept by you, and internal belongings should not be treated as part of the general moving list.

If the lift is big enough, can a safe be moved?

No. Weight, load capacity, platform, road surface and the full route also need to be confirmed. Load-bearing issues must be checked by the appropriate personnel, rather than relying on a size tool.

Does moving include dismantling fixed items and installation at the new address?

The scope for fixing removal, installation, drilling and reinstatement must be confirmed separately; do not assume everything is included. Lock opening or lock repair is also a separate request.
